Tuesday, February 21, 2017 marks the 52nd anniversary of the assassination of Human Rights Activist, El Hajj Malik El Shabazz (Malcolm X). In commemoration of his life and legacy, The Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center will host its annual Memorial Anniversary Program in the same place his life was taken 52 years ago.
The Shabazz Center will open at 10:00am.
10:00am: Come pay homage to El Hajj Malik El Shabazz (Malcolm X)'s legacy at the site of his martyrdom. The center houses (3) permanent installations detailing the contributions of Malcolm X through art.

6:00-8:00pm: Malcolm X 52nd Memorial Anniversary Program

Using Malcolm X's 1965 speech, "Prospects for Freedom,” as a foundation for this discussion, Grassroots leaders will tackle critical issues of today. Dr. Halima Toure (The Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood) will serve as Moderator. Guest Panelists Dr. Nadia Lopez (Founding Principal of Mott Hall Bridges Academy), Ifeoma Ike, Esq. (Co-Founder of Black and Brown People Vote), Dr. Mika’il Abdullah DeVeaux (Executive Director of Citizens Against Recidivism, Inc. ) and Fahd Ahmed, Esq. (Grassroots Organizer on Immigrant Justice & National Security) will address topics relating to Educational and Economic Inequality, Criminal Justice Reform, Voting Rights & Mobilization and Immigration Policy in the 21st century.
Cultural Performances & Tributes by Sheps Hetep, Impact Repertory Theatre, Forces of Nature Dance Theatre (Youth Ensemble), She-Salt and more.
Free and open to the public.
Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
